Climate change poses significant challenges to agricultural productivity, seed quality, and food security. In this context, adopting climate-resilient and sustainable approaches to seed production is essential to ensure a steady supply of high-quality seeds that can withstand changing climatic conditions and support sustainable farming systems.

Seed production lies at the foundation of agricultural growth. The availability of resilient and high-yielding seeds enables farmers to adapt to variations in temperature, rainfall, and soil conditions. Integrating climate-smart practices into seed production enhances crop performance, strengthens livelihoods, and ensures environmental sustainability.

Under a climate-resilient approach, seed production focuses on the use of drought-tolerant, flood-tolerant, and pest-resistant crop varieties developed through scientific breeding and participatory farmer selection. Sustainable practices such as crop rotation, organic nutrient management, integrated pest management, efficient water-use systems, and conservation tillage help maintain soil fertility and ecological balance while producing quality seeds.

The establishment of community seed banks and seed producer groups at the village level promotes local ownership, conserves indigenous varieties, and ensures timely seed availability. These community-based systems also help preserve agro-biodiversity and reduce dependence on external seed sources.

Further, the integration of modern technologies—such as climate forecasting, precision agriculture, and digital monitoring—strengthens the efficiency and reliability of seed production systems.
