Sustainable Agriculture Promotion

Under the Special Programme for Promotion of Integrated farming (SPPIF) initiative, targeted interventions have been implemented in the midlands and uplands of Kuliana Block to promote
sustainable agricultural practices. The program emphasizes crop diversification, intercropping, soil health management, integrated pest management (IPM), and improved irrigation
infrastructure. Strategic convergence with the Crop Diversification Programme (CDP) has further strengthened the outreach and impact of these efforts.
Key Interventions
>Crop Diversification & Intercropping: Farmers were encouraged to shift from mono-cropping (primarily paddy) to diversified cropping systems including pulses and oilseeds. Intercropping and
line sowing techniques were introduced to optimize land use and enhance productivity.
>Irrigation Enhancement: Investments were made to improve irrigation facilities, ensuring timely water availability and reducing dependency on erratic rainfall.
> Organic Inputs Promotion: The use of organic fertilizers and bio-pesticides was promoted to improve soil fertility and reduce chemical dependency. Capacity Building: Extensive training programs
were conducted to educate farmers on:
> Crop diversification strategies
>  Pest and disease management using IPM
> Soil conservation techniques
> Efficient water use and organic farming practices
