Producer Group (PG)

SDS actively promotes the formation and strengthening of Producer Groups (PGs) as a key institutional mechanism for empowering small and marginal farmers and improving their access to resources, technology, and markets.

A Producer Group is a community-based collective of farmers engaged in similar agricultural or allied activities. It is designed to enhance collective efficiency, reduce production costs, and improve bargaining power in both input and output markets. By working together, farmers can achieve economies of scale and adopt improved farming practices more effectively.

Under SDS initiatives, PGs are supported to adopt scientific and sustainable agricultural practices, including the use of quality inputs, climate-resilient crop varieties, and improved agronomic techniques. These groups also facilitate better access to training, extension services, credit, and government schemes.

PGs play a crucial role in strengthening value chain development, including aggregation, primary processing, storage, and direct market linkage. This reduces dependency on intermediaries and ensures better price realization for farmers.

The program also emphasizes capacity building, leadership development, and financial literacy among PG members to ensure effective group governance and long-term sustainability.

By organizing farmers into structured groups, SDS enables improved coordination, knowledge sharing, and collective decision-making, thereby enhancing overall agricultural productivity and rural livelihood security.
