Integrated Natural Resource Management and Water Security

Integrated Natural Resource Management (INRM) emphasizes the sustainable and coordinated use of land, water, and other natural resources to enhance livelihoods and ensure ecological balance. It promotes a holistic approach that recognizes the interdependence between natural resources and community well-being. At the village level, INRM focuses on preparing comprehensive plans through active participation of women-led community institutions such as Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Cluster Level Federations (CLFs), Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), and relevant government departments. By integrating INRM strategies into the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP), the approach aims to strengthen water security through improved water harvesting, groundwater recharge, and effective treatment of upland, medium, and lowland areas. Additionally, the formation of Water User Groups (WUGs) at the community level ensures equitable water distribution, promotes responsible water governance, and encourages the use of local knowledge and traditional practices for sustainable resource management.
