Custom Hiring Center (CHC)

SDS promotes the establishment of Custom Hiring Centers (CHCs) as an important agricultural mechanization initiative aimed at improving farm productivity, reducing labor costs, and increasing access to modern farm machinery for small and marginal farmers.

A Custom Hiring Center is a community-based facility where various types of agricultural machinery and equipment are made available on a rental basis. This includes tractors, seed drills, rotavators, threshers, power sprayers, and other farm implements that individual farmers may not afford to purchase.

The main objective of CHCs is to promote farm mechanization through shared access, ensuring that even resource-poor farmers can benefit from modern agricultural technology. This leads to timely farm operations, improved efficiency, and increased crop productivity.

Under SDS interventions, CHCs are often established through Producer Groups (PGs), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and Agriculture Production Clusters (APCs) to ensure collective ownership and sustainable management. Training is provided on equipment handling, maintenance, and safe operation of machinery.

The initiative also supports entrepreneurship development in rural areas, where local youth or farmer groups manage the CHC as a business model, generating income through machinery rental services.
